Men cooking for women at home.

Sandeep Patil, the former Indian cricketer, member of India's world cup winning team in 1983, was the first person, I heard on TV, way back during the Doordarshan days, who confessed his love for cooking at home.

Who else among my known ones love cooking at home?

Cooking occasionally certainly is done by many, however, cooking routinely at home, how many men do that?

Do famous chefs cook at home?

Again recalling, Sanjeev Kapoor confessing on TV, once long ago, that it is his wife who does most of the cooking at home.

Gordon Ramsay doesn't cook at home either. His daughter spilled the secret in one of his TV shows.

But wait...

My dear friend and our neighbor John Lobo loves cooking at home. I know from multiple sources.

"Jhonny is cooking and so I am walking." His wife Ann had once shared with great pride, while we came across each other during our evening stroll.

"Dad just loves taking over the kitchen," his daughter too had told.

John started his career cracking 3000 eggs daily at the iconic Taj Hotel. Now enjoys holding the kitchen at home for his women.

Who else? Avinash Martin? Well, I know that he has a lovely kitchen at home because he often shoot his videos in there, however, does he cook at home? Well, will surely have to check further!

Avinash and his wife Tez run Cavatina, the famous restaurant in Colva Goa.

Oh... yes... how could I forget.... Yogi! What's his full name by the way? Can't recall... Anyways... there was this pizzeria close to where we live in Thane.... actually, an Italian Resturant... now this place has relocated.

Thus, if you ever happen to visit Panchgani, then right on the main road that goes ahead to Mahabaleshwar, is this place called Oregano. Yogi is the man behind that miracle.

The problem with Yogi is that once you eat Oregano pizza, you stop liking any other pizza. Believe me, he is so good!

"My wife married me only because I could cook. I am the one who does all the cooking at home." This soft-hearted mountain of a man had no qualms in making this shameless confession.

A few days ago, very interestingly, I came across a tweet by a lady, an IIMA alumnus, who enjoys a significant following on Twitter. (@velvetyvirgo)

The tweet said that although it is good that men are cooking however they are leaving behind a messy kitchen.

This tweet certainly was an instant reminder of what was shown in the famous Malayalam movie 'The Great Indian Kitchen'.

Yes, completely agree! Occassional cooks or  novice cooks may surely leave the kitchen dirty, as also many times, the tired cooks.

Very surprisingly though, while checking this tweet, I came across an old acquaintance, Amey Asuti.

Amey Asuti too is an IIMA alumnus. Over 10 years ago, when I started cooking at home, Amey was building Tastyplex, a food delivery platform.

Mind you, this was way before Swiggy came around riding their million dollar funding. This was the time when Zomato was merely a restaurant review site and also a time when our old Lucknowite-cum-trekking mate Anand Jain was is process of selling Burpp to a large media conglomerate.

Tastyplex, Swiggy, Zomato, Burpp, were all about getting food from outside, while the road that I took, dealt with cooking at home.

So, do women like men cooking for them at home?

Indeed they do!

However, what do men achieve by cooking routinely for their women at home?

From my experience, I can surely say, following:

1. Dilution of false male ego.

2. A better understanding of managing "heat" and "pressure" in life.

3. A new dimension gets added to the couple relationship in form of mutual respect, love and understanding.

4. Brings essential practical support to the nuclear-family eco-system.

5. Lesser "Bai-talks" in the household.

6. Healthier food for the entire family.

Actually, the issue is not about men cooking or women cooking. The true quest instead is for being happy, healthy and in harmony with your own existence, life and its various situations.

In our nuclear family urban lifestyle set-ups, where career pressures may presume disproportionate levels and economic considerations may very easily outweigh every other life-objective, 3 things therefore would never disappoint any couple... and these are:

- Cooking together

- Loving together &

- Meditation together
